Scrip

Buy scrip and raise some money for Tapestry at no cost to you!

Four fund-raisers at no cost to you. Yes, no cost!

  1. The first and the simplest of the four types of scrip is Albertsons. You take an Albertsons card from the scrip table. It has our name and number. The clerk scans it and profit comes directly to the church based on our amount of participation. The % goes up the more we buy.

If you have an Albertson's Preferred Savings card, it can be linked to the Tapestry account so that you only need one card. Then, whenever you use your Preferred Savings card, Tapestry automatically gets the usual percentage. Ask a cashier to link the two cards.
  2. The second and oldest type is paper/plastic scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center. Scrip is offered in the form of either paper scrip (gift certificates) or debit cards (gift cards) each Sunday morning at the table in the social hall. You purchase the certificates for face value and spend them just like money at the store. Tapestry purchases them at a discount and the difference is a source of revenue. The list of available merchants is long (see the Great Lakes Scrip Center web site for a complete list; click on the Retailers link in the blue line near the top of the page) – it includes restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, fast food, retail stores, and gas companies and bookstores.

Every Sunday there are many “in the box” ready to buy. Scrip for any merchant can be ordered and is usually available by the next Sunday. If you anticipate a need for a large quantity of scrip or perhaps scrip for a merchant we don't usually keep in inventory, contact Dana Freeman at

  1. eScrip logoThe third opportunity for no-cost-to-you fundraising is eScrip. Your credit cards can be registered with them and anything you buy with those credit cards at any of their merchants will produce a percentage for the Tapestry. Our church has an account: UU Church of South County (our name before we changed it to Tapestry, a Unitarian Universalist Congregation) and the ID# 3813130. Enroll online and they will send you your password. See the step-by-step registration instructions.

  2. SchoolPop logoThe fourth is a new online shopping service called SchoolPop. At their web site, you will see many catalogs including Land’s End, Office Depot, L.L.Bean, JC Penney and 200 more vendors. You can shop from your catalog.

Again, you have to enroll before shopping. When you go to the web site to register, enter "UU Church of South County" (our name before we changed it to Tapestry, a Unitarian Universalist Congregation) in the School, PTA or Other box, leave the city blank and select California for the state. Then enter your personal info and go shopping!

Also, SchoolPop has a Visa credit card which gives Tapestry 1% of every purchase you make with the card. This is even better than registering your existing credit cards with eScrip because in that case we only get a percentage when used at participating merchants. With the SchoolPop Visa, Tapestry gets 1% of every purchase made with the card. Sign up now!

If you have any questions, email Dana Freeman   for paper/plastic scrip, Tara Sayre for eScrip and Marie Ferguson for Schoolpop®.

Ordering Scrip Cards or Certificates

We keep a supply of scrip for popular stores on hand for sale on Sunday mornings but, of course, it's impossible to have cards & certificates for every merchant. And it's only possible to keep a limited amount of the ones that we do carry. So, if you want to be sure of getting scrip for a particular store, the best way to do so is to order it before the next Sunday service. Contact Dana Freeman at to order in advance.

Ya Gotta Eat, Right? bag of groceries

All of us buy groceries. Why not let your grocery purchases make money for Tapestry? Grocers will donate up to 5% of what we spend. Here's how.

  • Albertson's - Stop by the scrip table on Sundays for a Community Partner card. Then show the cashier the card every time you shop. Get some for friends and family, too. If have an Albertson's Preferred Savings Card, be sure to link it to our Community Partner card so that we can get a percentage every time you use your card. Talk to the cashier or stop by the info desk at Albertson's.

  • Von's, Pavilion's, Safeway, Wild Oats, Henry's, Whole Foods, Bristol Farms, Farm-to-Market - Register your credit cards to support "UUC of South County" at the eScrip web site. Use your registered cards when you shop.
  • Ralph's - Now a bit about Ralph's Community Plan: there are sheets at the scrip table on Sundays to give your Ralph's number and the usual information. The sheets will be faxed to Ralph's each week. Sign up now — we get 4% on all purchases.
  • Stater Bros. - Cards denominations of $10, $25, $50 and $100 are available. We will make bulk purchases periodically and will try to bundle orders to get the largest discount. See Dana Freeman.

Shop other grocery stores? Sign up for the schoolPop Visa card. 1% of all your purchases anywhere go to Tapestry!

Questions? Stop by the scrip table on Sundays between the services. We are happy to answer questions.
