Welcome Rev. Mitra Rahnema

Membership

We are a people of many different theologies, but of similar values. One of our Unitarian forbears said, “We do not have to think alike to love alike.” We know that you will find our community one of people who think for themselves and are proud of it, and who treasure the deep ties of fellowship and friendship that we share here.

We welcome you with our loving spirit, we challenge you to seek your own truth, and we invite you to join with us in the service of justice. We are a congregation that learns, worships, laughs, cries, and serves together.

We hope that you will explore all areas of our congregation because we have something for just about every interest from the social activities—from our bridge group and book club to the fellowship of the women’s group and several covenant groups. Of course, we also get a lot accomplished in our traditional church committees. See the Group Activities page for more info on these ongoing groups.

Other opportunities for participation include the following committees & groups:

  • The Caring Committee receives calls from or about church members and friends needing support or special attention. Contact committee chair Connie Pursell at with any questions.
  • Religious Exploration classes are offered during Sunday morning worship services through the Children's Religious Exploration program for youth from preschool through high school.
  • The Worship Committee plans services for Sundays when the minister is not in the pulpit. Lay services are drawn from members of our congregation as well as from the larger community.

And, of course, our membership committee welcomes your questions and would be happy to assist you learning more about UUCSC. Contact any of the members listed below or call Rev. John Millspaugh (church phone: 949-581-0243; or email: ):

  • Debbie Salahi, chair ()
  • Linda Yeargin  ()
  • Loretta Joseph ()

Should you decide that you have found a religious home at our congregation, it is easy to join. First, you should attend one of several newcomer's orientations which are held throughout the year. (In come cases, it is no tnecessary to attend an orientation session; if you think this may apply in your case, feel free to ask the minister.) After the orientation session, you just need to sign our membership book and make a financial pledge of support for the congregation. Again, if you have any questions about our congregation or the membership process, feel free to contact any of the people listed above.

Automatic Pledging

UUCSC has contracted with Vanco Services to handle automatic debiting of contributions from members accounts. This is a very low-cost service with no setup or maintenance fee which is used by many other churches including numerous UU churches. It allows for automatic transfer of your contributions from your checking or savings account to the churches account. You can specify monthly, quarterly, weekly, and one-time transfers of contribution. The cost to UUCSC is 50 cents for each initial or revised bank authorization plus 25 cents per transfer. So a one-time contribution would cost us 75 cents. A monthly contribution would cost us 75 cents the first month and 25 cents each month thereafter.

To initiate automatic debits for your pledge donation, you need to fill out an authorization form and return it with a voided check to the treasurer (that’s me for the remainder of this month). You specify the amount, frequency, and start date for the automatic transfers on the form. Copies of the form are available in the church office or you can download the form and print it out.

Vanco Services also handles credit card transactions, but we have not signed up for that service at this time because it has much higher transaction fees and there is a setup fee for the service.

If you have any questions, you can e-mail Penny Kinnear at . If you want more information about Vanco Services, you can visit their website.
